Diagnostic Hysterolaparoscopy

Diagnostic Hysterolaparoscopy is a method of diagnosis used to evaluate conditions related to infertility in the female reproductive organs. Hystero refers to the uterus, laparoscopy is a type of surgical procedure which involves the insertion of a thin fibre optic cable with a camera at the end, known as a Laparoscope.

The Laparoscope is inserted through specific one of several incisions made by the doctor during the procedure. The camera feed enables the doctor to receive detailed images from inside the uterus on an external screen, the doctor uses this information to diagnose the patient. These conditions are primarily related to infertility, but an examination of the uterus may reveal several types of conditions.

Diagnostic Laparoscopy is used to diagnose several conditions, which are difficult to identify without the additional information that diagnostic laparoscopy provides. These are some of the conditions that may be causing infertility:

  • Endometriosis

  • Uterine fibroid

  • Adhesions

  • Ovarian cysts

  • Ectopic pregnancy

  • Tubal patency

Procedure

During the procedure, Dr. Prabhjot Manchanda will first perform a hysteroscopy by inserting the hysteroscope through the vagina and cervix into the uterus. This allows for the visualization of the uterine cavity to detect abnormalities such as polyps, fibroids, or congenital anomalies. Next, laparoscopy is performed by making small incisions in the abdomen and inserting the laparoscope to examine the outside of the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and other pelvic structures. Carbon dioxide gas may be used to inflate the abdomen for better visibility.

Post-Operative Care

After the procedure, Dr. Manchanda and her team will provide detailed post-operative care instructions, including pain management, wound care, and activity restrictions. Patients will be advised on what to expect during recovery and when to schedule follow-up appointments to discuss the findings and any necessary treatment plans.
